In a 4-3 vote, denied a variance that would have legalized window removals that were done without a permit at the former nail salon adjacent to the Uptown Theater.

Armory Holdings purchased the theater and adjacent nail salon with plans to use both spaces as performance venues, set to open in May. The owners say additional windows would conflict with the purpose of the space.
Zoning code requires that the building has 40 percent window coverage; the former nail salon is currently at about 30 percent.
Voting yes: Callahan, Ingraham, Saufley, Perry
Voting no: Grans Korsh, Hutchens, Wang
