@cledocumenters @signalcleveland The Committee didn't follow the agenda exactly because Tessa Jackson, Director for the Department of Economic Development was tied up in another meeting. The Department was heavy on the agenda - learn about what they do here: makeitincleveland.org

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland The Committee went to Ordinance No. 134-2023 which requested authorization for the Director of Port Control to enter into an amendment 12-month contract with EnviroScience, Inc. to provide additional environmental analytical services.
Coffee @CoffeeDocuments 4/16
@cledocumenters @signalcleveland The Department of Port Control is responsible for managing the city’s airports and waterfront properties in a safe, secure, efficient, and courteous manner. This incudes maintenance of terminal buildings, vehicles, parking, roadways and other areas surrounding city assets.

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland The ordinance passed with little debate. Next was Ordinance No. 1213-2022 which requested authority for the Director of Economic Development to enter into a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Agreement with Bridgeworks, LLC to assist w/financing Bridgeworks Development Project.

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland The project will be located at 2429 W. Superior Ave. and include 140 apartments: 40 two-bedroom, 82 one-bedroom, and 18 studio; hotel with 130 rooms; and a restaurant on the eleventh floor. https://t.co/uxZZTKKyGs

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland 50% of the apartments will be Affordable Minimum Income (AMI) units. TIF is an economic development mechanism that will be used to finance the project. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District will receive $495,000 annually from the TIF financing.

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland The ordinance passed after council members discussed the importance of TIF financing contributing to the city being able to provide more services throughout the city. Learn about TIFs here:

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland Last item, Ordinance No. 185-2023 authorizing the city to acquire and re-convey properties owned by 1900 E. 6th Street, LLC and/or 1900 E. 6th Street for the purpose of entering into the chain-of-title prior to a TIF agreement for the Fidelity Hotel.

@cledocumenters @signalcleveland Committee and council members discussed the need to educate the public on TIFs so that people don't think we are just giving away stuff. Watch the meeting here at: youtube.com/watch?v=VgHijL…
Coffee @CoffeeDocuments 13/16
@cledocumenters @signalcleveland Want to learn about TIFs, attend or watch future meetings because Blaine Griffin (Ward 6), Michael Polensek (Ward 8), and most council members say there will be more discussion in future members "because we know people are attending and watching our meetings."
